the star spangled banner
I love to create pieces using words. Words fascinate me in the way they can be both clear and unclear. When I make art with words I am constantly thinking about this juxtaposition.
the star spangled banner
This piece was created in reaction to the election of Donald Trump in November of 2016. I changed the words of the national anthem to say “Land of the Blind, Home of the Ignorant” and used the popular social media phrase #amerikkka to create two stencils. Much in the same way that layers of fascism and corruption make up the presidency of Donald Trump, layers of these two stencils make up the image of an American flag.

"the star spangled banner" Stencil
I designed two stencils with carefully chosen phrases. I created different layers by alternating colors. The varying layers serve two purposes. The first is to create depth, the second is to make it difficult to read the entirety of the phrases I chose.
