Created over two years and two firings of the Waterville Wood-Fire Anagama Kiln in Waukesha, Wisconsin, these playful forms were created in direct opposition to the volatile process happening within the kiln. Placed strategically at different points inside the thirty-two foot long kiln, this ongoing series is a documentation of the diversity of finishes that can happen as a result of the atmospheric wood-fire process. The works show how different areas of the kiln can create distinct surface finishes. Much in the same way we humans are a reflection of the marks others make on us, each work emerges from the kiln bearing the distinct marks of the environment surrounding it.
